Exotics:

All the exotics we use are ordered through licensed vendors and prices vary depending on the exotic and vendor.  All the exotics we use come pre-dyed (colors may vary).  Our prices for adding exotics to any of our items depends on the price I have to pay for the hide and the difficulty in working with the type of exotic.  Some exotics are easier to work with than others.

We mostly work with shark, elephant, ostrich leg, and some natural colored python.  We try keep black in stock for the elephant, shark and ostrich leg which seems to be more popular.  I do have other colors in stock on occasion and may be able to order a specific color for you depending on what is available at the time and the size of your order.

Most elephant hides are usually ordered in large pieces or whole hides so if you are just wanting elephant trim on an item for a color I do not have in stock I may be able to find a smaller piece.  Sometimes vendors are willing to cut elephant hides but will generally charge more per square foot to do this.  Basically, I cannot afford to order several hundred dollars worth of exotic just to put a $25 piece of trim on a holster.  If you are wanting several items or a whole rig in elephant or another expensive exotic then I generally don't mind ordering a large piece especially if I feel it is a color that I can easily sell (earth tones).

Below are some examples of my work in exotics.

(Click on photos for larger view.)

Note:  All of my full front exotic holsters include a smooth leather lined interior.  Elephant and shark not only look good but also makes very durable gear.  Elephant is very tough and abrasion resistant.  Shark is also very durable and abrasion resistant but is less expensive than elephant.  Ostrich leg is tough but these hides are generally pretty small and I normally use them more for trim but some small items such as pocket holsters can be done in full front ostrich leg coverage.

Note:  My full front exotic belts are normally a little thinner than my standard gun belts.  They consist of a layer of exotic mated to a 7 - 8 oz.  strip of cowhide with an internal stiffener sewn in between.

They look nice and they also provide a good sturdy foundation for your gear.

Horsehide:

Most of our products can be ordered in Horsehide for an additional $15.  We do also offer horsehide belts however the size I can make depends on the length of the pieces I receive from the tannery.  I do request longer pieces when I order from the tannery but I never know how long the pieces will be until I receive them.  Email to order horsehide belts with your belt size using our measuring instructions from the Belts/Mag Carriers page. I will then check to see if I have a piece long enough for your belt.  Our Horsehide belts are constructed with the top layer being horsehide and the foundation leather/liner being 7 - 8 oz. cowhide.

Please email or call to order items in Horsehide as this is not an option on the pay now buttons on our website.  Horsehide usually does have more natural markings than cowhide but this is part of its natural beauty.  It has more of a matte finish and will not usually be as shiny as cowhide.  Horsehide is more dense and also is more abrasion and moisture resistant.  Because it is thinner and more moisture resistant some people prefer it for IWB.  It makes a very durable holster or belt.

There is always an ongoing debate over which is better, cowhide or horsehide.  I leave this up to the customer and their personal preference.  Both cowhide and horsehide make very nice gear that should last you a long time if you take care of it.
